Novacem overview
Novacem has developed a carbon negative cement which offers a transformational solution to the challenge of reducing carbon emissions from the cement industry.
Our cement is based on a non-carbonate raw material, magnesium silicate, and uses a relatively low temperature production process. Overall, more CO2 is absorbed during production than it emitted. For every tonne of Ordinary Portland Cement replaced by Novacem, CO2 emissions will be reduced by up to 850kg. Our long term goal is widespread global adoption of our cement, significantly reducing cement as a source of CO2 emissions.
Novacem was founded in 2007 as spin-out from Imperial College London. Our investors are Imperial Innovations, the Royal Society Enterprise Fund and the London Technology Fund. We have received additional support through the Technology Strategy Board and from the Carbon Trust.
